Patty Griffin
Downtown Church (2010)

Patty Griffin, born on March 16, 1964, is an American singer-songwriter and musician. She is especially known for her down-home crafting of songs and her connection to musicians including Emmylou Harris, Ellis Paul, and the Dixie Chicks, who have played with her onstage as well as performing cover songs of Griffin’s work, exposing many of her compositions to mainstream pop and country music audiences outside Griffin’s folk music circle of fans.

In 2009, Patty Griffin, along with Mavis Staples and The Tri-City Singers released a version of the song “Waiting For My Child to Come Home” on the compilation album Oh Happy Day: An All-Star Music Celebration.

The collaboration with Staples led EMI’s Peter York to suggest Griffin make an album of gospel songs. Griffin agreed on the condition that friend and bandmate Buddy Miller produced the record. Griffin’s sixth studio album, Downtown Church, was recorded at the Downtown Presbyterian Church in Nashville. The album features long-time friends Buddy and Julie Miller, as well as Shawn Colvin and Emmylou Harris. It features songs by Hank Williams, Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton, and “All Creatures of Our God and King,” a song accredited to St. Francis of Assisi.

『マイ・ターン』は３作目のソロ・アルバム。ファビュラス・サンダーバーズを引退してから、マイケル・ランドーと友達に なった。そして、ランドーが『マイ・ターン』のプロデュースとサイド・ギターをやった。ブルーズだけではなく、クルセーダーズのWay Back Homeとスライ・アンド・ザ・ファミリー・ストーンのLet Me Have It Allもやる。

Kirk Fletcher

My Turn (2010)

Kirk Fletcher was born December 23, 1975 in Bellflower California. Son of a Pentecostal preacher, Kirk picked up the guitar early, listening to his older brother Walter play. While initially attracted to players like Jimi Hendrix, Larry Carlton & Robben Ford, he developed a great affinity for the blues in his late teens/early 20s. This eventually led to high profile gigs with harmonica maestro, Charlie Musselwhite and the Fabulous Thunderbirds and a great deal of critical praise before concentrating on his solo career.

His third solo album, My Turn, finds Fletcher coming full circle. While hardly abandoning the blues, the album does touch on his formative influences. Travis Carlton, Larry’s son, bass player & Fletcher friend, lays down the low end on an inspired cover of the Crusaders’ ‘Way Back Home’ while things get downright Hendrix-y on the title track and the experimental ‘Continent’s End’. Produced by Michael Landau, who takes a stand-out solo on ‘Blues for Antone’, and Gary Novak, the album also features Fletcher’s vocal debut on Sly & the Family Stone’s ‘Let Me Have It All’ and Jimmy Reed’s ‘Found Love’.

Kirk played in his father’s church for the next decade along with soul band’s with once again his brother. After high school Kirk began to play with local gospal, funk, blues, pop and rock bands. At this time Kirk’s day’s were spent hangging at a local music store, that led to meeting Robben Ford. I was sort of a fly on the wall and Robben hipped me to Jazz and Tenor sax player’s like Coltrane and Wayne Shorter. Also at night if not gigging I’d see player’s like, now close friend Mike Landau play at the Mint in L.A. Then I started to get into the blues more and more. A little while later Kirk met bluesman Al Blake and Jr. Watson. The next five or so year’s were nothing but traditional blues from the 30′s to the 60′s. Kirk feel’s this deep obbsession with the blues gave his playing more substance and foundation. This led to playing with some of the best in the business, Lynwood Slim, Janiva Magness, Hollywood Fat’s band, Kim Wilson, Member’s of Muddy Water’s band, James Cotten, Rusty Zinn, Hubert Sumlin, Charlie Musselwhite, Ford Brother’s, Nappy Brown, Tail dragger, Phillip Walker, Fabulous Thunderbirds, James Harman, Mike Landau, Robben Ford, Larry Carlton and so many more. Kirk’s third Album entitled “My Turn” released on February 16th, 2010 on EclectoGroove Records.

Derek Trucks

現在はオールマン・ブラザーズのギタリストである一方、自身のデレク・トラックス・バンドでも活動している。
『ジョイフル・ノイズ』（２００２年）がデレク・トラックス・バンドのソニー・ミュージックレコーズの初作だった。これでメンバーが大体決まった。 Kofi Burbridge – キー ボード、フ ルート,ヴォー カル、Todd Smallie – ベー ス、ヴォーカル、Yonrico Scott – ド ラム、パー カッション、ヴォーカル。リー ドヴォーカルがまだ決めないで、色んなゲストヴォーカリストが参加した。そして、色んなジャンルも試してみたの。ブルーズ、ソール、フュージョ ン、ラテン、インド・クラシックなど。

著名ミュージシャンの様々なセッションにも参加し、2006年にはエ リック・クラプトンのツアーにも同行した。ちなみに彼の名前「デレク」は、デュ アン・オールマンが参加したクラプトンのバンド、デ レク・アンド・ザ・ドミノスから取られている。

Derek Trucks Band

Joyful Noise (2002)

Born in Jacksonville, Florida on June 8, 1979, Derek Trucks is one of the finest slide guitarists in the world. Prodigiously gifted, he was taking paid gigs by the age of 11 and released his first album under his own name before his 18th birthday. As the nephew of Allman Brothers Band drummer, Butch Trucks, and with Eric Clapton’s alter ego Derek, of Layla fame, as his namesake, it was perhaps inevitable that he would introduce Duane Allman’s innovations to a new generation.

Joyful Noise (2002) was his major-label debut and saw the line-up of the Derek Trucks Band solidify. Todd Smallie had been holding down bass duties since Derek’s first album, while drummer, Yonrico Scott, had also been in the band for several years. Kofi Burbridge, on keyboards, flute & some vocals, was the key addition, providing a necessary foil for Derek and moving the music in a jazzier direction.

With no lead vocalist in the band at the time of recording, the band relied on several guest vocalists including Trucks’ wife, Susan Tedeschi, salsa star, Ruben Blades and soul legend, Solomon Burke. The band also experimented with a wider variety of styles, exploring salsa, fusion and even Eastern classical music in addition to the expected blues and soul.

Inner Resonance (2010)

On 24th April 2010 Cranky went to see Orbital Resonance. The headliner that evening was Baraka. We’d never heard of them before but by the end of their set, we were fans. Although obviously indebted to the progressive rock sounds of the ’70s, they have their own original sound. For more info, check out their website.

小学生の時にダニー・ガットンやB.B.キングと一緒に演奏して、1５歳のときにベリー・オークリー・ジュニアとブ ラッドラインを結成した。彼らはアルバムを1枚とヒット・シングルを2枚発売すると、すぐに解散した。2000年にボナマッサはトム・ダウド（ジョン・ コールトレーン、クリーム、エリック・クラプトン）によるプロデュース作品、ア・ニュー・デイ・イエスタデイと共にソロデビューを果たした。

2006年には、ハード・ロックの世界で有名、ケビン・シャーリーによるプロデュース5枚目のアルバムとしてユー・アンド・ミーを発売した。このアルバム では、有名なスタジオ・ミュージシャンを数名起用した。ジョン・ボーナムの息子であるジェイソン・ボーナムも、その一人である。

スロー・ジンは、2007年8月の発売から10週間以上に渡って、ビルボードのブルース・チャートに残った。今までのアルバムとは異なり、ここではアコー スティック・ギターを使用した楽曲が増えている。この時期には、ツアーバンドのベーシストがカルミネ・ロハスへと変わり、リック・メリックがキーボードと して加わった。彼らは、ユー・アンド・ミーとスロー・ジンの録音にも参加した。

Joe Bonamassa Sloe Gin (2007) Born in Utica, New York, Joe Bonamassa was already a seasoned veteran by his 22nd birthday, when he began his solo career. A child prodigy, Bonamassa was taken under the wing of both Danny Gatton & BB King while he was still in elementary school. At 15, with Berry Oakley, Jr., he formed Bloodline, which also featured Miles Davis’ son, Erin and Robbie Krieger’s son, Waylon. They released one moderately successful album but broke up soon after. In 2000, Bonamassa released his first solo album, A New Day Yesterday, produced by the legendary Tom Dowd. Unfortunately, Dowd passed away soon after recording the album and for his next several albums, Bonamassa, struggled to find a producer and a direction that would best suit his talents. Having flirted with AOR rock and more traditional blues, Bonamassa settled on a British-influenced blues-rock sound and, in hard rock veteran, Kevin Shirley, he found a producer who could harness that direction. Sloe Gin was their second project together and Bonamassa’s sixth solo album overall. Heavily influenced by Rod Stewart’s early acoustic solo albums, it featured much more acoustic work than any of his previous albums and highlighted his gradually maturing vocals. Kevin Shirley’s influence can be felt in the atmospheric sonics of ‘Ball Peen Hammer’ and the title track, originally from a Tim Curry solo album and written by Pink Floyd collaborator, Bob Ezrin, was included at his suggestion.
